To allow each one of our Greyhounds who are ready for adoption an equal opportunity for a forever home, we do not *advertise* available dogs on our website.  If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via email or via snail mail.  Thank you.

Show Me Greyhounds, after careful review and checking references, must approve your application first before we require the following:

By signing the application, you agree to a scheduled home visit and an unscheduled surprise home visit.  Plan for the scheduled home visit to last at least an hour or two - sometimes longer to answer any questions you might have.

By signing the application, you agree to at least 8 to 10 hours of hands on in person training to get to know Greyhounds up front and personal.  This will involve bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, brushing teeth, over all grooming, feeding, checking for parasites, checking for any unusual signs of lumps, bumps, bruising, walking a Greyhound on lead, giving commands, how to properly keep a Greyhound from backing out of it's collar, how to hold a leash properly, how to muzzle a Greyhound if need be, distinguishing what type of behavior is play behavior, aggressive behavior, prey drive, alpha status, non alpha status, how to properly adjust a martingale collar, learning why flexi leads are deadly and should never be used with Greyhounds, etc.  You will also learn why keeping doors shut, having the proper fencing and keeping gates locked at all times is one of the most important rules in Greyhound ownership.  The majority of Greyhounds who get loose is either through an open door, damaged fencing or an open gate.  Cars are deadly enemies to a loose Greyhound.

Show Me Greyhounds will teach you some specific questions to ask your veterinarian to make sure they are Greyhound savvy.  Some veterinarians despite how good they are with other breeds are not Greyhound savvy.  It doesn't mean they are not a good veterinarian, it just means they do not see many Greyhounds and may not be knowledgeable about certain health care needs of Greyhounds.

If you are not ready to meet our requirements and be sincere in learning about Greyhounds, then you are not ready to adopt a Greyhound.  Show Me Greyhounds will not slide on the requirements no matter if you feel you are an experienced Greyhound person or not.  ALL potential adopters will go through the same training process regardless.  We feel this is in the best interest of the Greyhounds and is not to be taken personal.  It is our goal to place Greyhounds in the proper home that is suited best for each Greyhound individually.  We base our adoptions on quality of homes - not quantity of homes.  We do not discriminate against any person for race, religious or sexual orientation.  However, please note we will check with other Greyhound adoption groups to see if they have received an adoption inquiry from you.

All greyhounds adopted through us are spayed, neutered and vetted with the proper vaccinations before they go to their forever home.  The adoption fee is to cover the costs of their initial medical care stated above.

To allow each one of our Greyhounds who are ready for adoption  an equal opportunity for a forever home, we do not *advertise* available dogs on our website.  If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via email or via snail mail.  Thank you.
