OUR LITTLE GIRL LULU

LuLu has become a very popular and well known little girl within the past 3 years.  She's cheated death not once but twice now and she always makes everyone laugh.  She's a free spirit and never looks back on the hard times she went through.  She only concentrates on the good times while keeping us on our toes at all times.

We hope you enjoy her online photo album.... because we get to enjoy her in person!

LuLu meeting her big brother Heisman for the first time.  Heisman was 12 years old.  Sadly, we lost Heisman October 1, 2007 to the end stages of Wobblers at age 12 1/2.

Ashley was almost 11 and LuLu was almost 5.

LuLu's 5th birthday

It's THIS look that let's us know she's up

to something naughty

Does this look comfortable?  Ouch!

This also shows her overbite as well.

Her famous roasted turkey impression!

Look!  No head!

I want cookies so hand them over or I will eat the next pile of dust you sweep up!  Yes, she eats dust even though she is well fed...

LuLu smiling.  This is also when we suspected she had pannus.  Notice the red eye?

LuLu is NOT a happy camper since she was diagnosed with pannus in both eyes and has to wear doggles now.

LuLu LOVES to crawl up on your lap

if you are sitting on the floor.

All twisted - in body and in mind.

She found me in the bathroom.  I can't go anywhere in the house without her following me.  She also has a fettish for

TOILET TISSUE!

No matter how big the stuffy is - she LOVES them!  This stuffy is as long as she is!

LuLu was paranoid about a fly nearby.  Pardon Ashley's smile - she's only got her 4 canines left.  Patrick is in back being a gentleman.

You can see her left hip is much higher than her right hip.  Her left hip was broken while on the run during Aug 06 to Dec 06

LuLu waiting for Molly and Willie

(the next door neighbor dogs) to come out and play.  This picture was taken just a couple of weeks before the toad incident.

LuLu and my youngest grand daughter Evelyn.  LuLu ADORES Evelyn but Evelyn isn't so sure the adoration is mutual!

After almost dying from playing with a common toad, we got a cup guard for her muzzle and also tightened her muzzle.  It didn't help.  Check out the next picture.....

Yep - in less than 10 seconds - she got her muzzle off.  Sad thing is I watched her do it!

LuLu is one happy girl here.  Her Auntie Teddy sent her a special toy!

Here's her new toy!  It's a green frog that goes rivet, rivet, rivet!  Auntie Teddy thought this would be safer for LuLu to play with rather than a real toad.

LuLu and her big brother Patrick keeping an eye on the neighbors.  Since all of the toads are hibernating now, she doesn't have to wear the cup on her muzzle until next year.

Shh... did you hear that?  There's something in the woods!  LuLu - it's just a woodpecker!

Ashley, LuLu and Patrick being nosey at the front gate.  Our gate is very secure with the gate handle, a combination lock AND a plastic coated steel cable wrapped around it with a padlock on it as well!  The plastic coated sign lets everyone know we have Greyhounds and our gate is to be closed and locked at all times.

LuLu is still being nosey but decided to lie down to watch the tow truck driver.  She will be 7 October 14th, 2009 and has survived 2 near death experiences already.  She can drive us insane most days but after the toad incident, we realized life would NEVER be the same without her either.

What is that NOISE?

LuLu, is that YOU SNORING?

LuLu!  Wake up!  You have your entire head under your blanket and you are snoring!

You were snoring pretty loudly there sweetie!

LuLu - yes, you were, too, snoring!  I could hear it all the way in the other room!

That's much better.  Maybe I can hear the TV now since you stopped snoring!

The elusive sit from LuLu.  Yes, she sits - even with that broken hip.  She sits extremely well but only on her terms and you have to be very fast to snap a picture of her sitting, too.  She doesn't like people taking pictures of her sitting.

Here's Patrick sitting, too.  For such a tall boy, his sit is right on as well.  Very straight.  He doesn't sit on command but that's ok with me.  He was busy keeping an eye out on what one of the neighbors was doing in their back yard.  Patrick is quite the protector of his yard, home and family.

Guess who came out a little early this year?  Our little tree frogs.  LuLu hasn't met Mr. Tree Frog yet and I hope she doesn't.  He resembles a toad too much to her and I do not need a repeat of last year.

Here's LuLu cockroaching outside on a warm spring day.  I guess she wanted to celebrate no more snow or something.  Silly girl!  All of my furkids cockroach inside but she is the only one who will cockroach outside.

Here's Ashley listening for moles.  She can be silly even at her age.  I figure she is entitled to do a few goofy things at age 12 1/2.  Hey Ashley!  Do you hear anything yet?

Patrick loves to lie under our old Maple tree and just take in all the sunshine while the girls are doing silly things like cockroaching and listening for moles.  How's it going Patrick?

After taking abuse from LuLu for 3 years, my portable ramp couldn't take it anymore.  She kept using it as a spring board to launch herself off of and into the yard.  So what did we do?  We built a new ramp.  Here's a picture of the frame that's almost ready for the decking board and indoor/outdoor carpeting for traction.

Here's the new ramp but it's not completely finished yet.  It's going to be waterproofed and have railings on both sides to keep a certain little black girl from exiting off the sides.  30 inches wide, 22 1/2 inches tall at its highest point, flush with the deck floor and 10 ft long.  Can hold weight well over 350 lbs and best news of all - it doesn't give or move anywhere!

Here's Patrick walking up the ramp like a pro!  The first time he went down, that's all it took for this boy to learn the ramp.  He does steps very well for as long legged as he is but the ramp will help him, too.

The deck steps will remain blocked off until we can build gates at the top and bottom of the steps.  For right now, everyone can use the ramp because it holds well over 350 lbs.

Here's Ashley walking up the ramp perfectly!  She's 12 1/2 now and steps are not kind to her anymore.  If you look to the left at the foot of the steps, you can see half of the old portable ramp blocking off the steps.  The other half broke into two pieces.  I had that portable ramp for 5 years and it served the dogs well until LuLu came along.

It took Ashley a few practice runs of going up and down to get comfortable using the new ramp but she's really enjoying it now!

Here's LuLu trotting up the ramp waving her tail high in the wind!  She doesn't have good control of her tail because of the nerve damage done when she broke her left hip.  I'm not sure if you can see it or not in this picture but her left hip is much higher than her right.  I just hope she doesn't get any bright ideas about launching herself off of this ramp - it doesn't give anywhere.

When we get the railings up on each side, she won't be able to jump off the sides.  She will have to walk up and down the ramp like a normal dog does.

Here's a picture of my first Grape Iris bloom of the 2010 season.  This is no ordinary purple Iris either.  When it blooms, it fills the air with an aroma of someone making homemade grape jelly.  These Irises have been in our family for over 5 generations.  They are very hardy and very easy to care for, too.

Another view of the first Grape Iris bloom.  These will continue to bloom all summer long.  I have several Iris beds in my yard and the furkids do not bother them either.

Happy Mother's Day 2010!
