GREYHOUND AFFAIR DOES NOT CHARGE GROUPS A FEE FOR CONDUCTING A RAFFLE. WE DO THIS TO HELP THE DOGS IN NEED. IT'S OUR WAY OF DONATING AND HELPING.
Greyhound Affair donates through Greyhound Affair raffles only. Raffles help increase the amount of money being donated to the group recipient rather than us donating a physical item to the group. The intention of our raffles is to raise sufficient funds for the group recipient and to have at least one winner. Greyhound Affair donates the item(s) in most of our raffles. If Greyhound Affair donates the item(s), the group does not pay for the item (Greyhound Affair pays for it) and Greyhound Affair will handle the shipping of the item(s) to the lower 48 states only. Some groups have their own item(s) to donate for the raffle. If the group asks us to raffle off their item they have donated, the group will be responsible for shipping to the winner. Winner of the raffle gets the prize - the group gets the money.
Our raffles last at least 10 days (sometimes longer) and usually consists of one item (sometimes more) and has at least one winner. On rare occasions (if we have more than one large item up for raffle), we will extend the raffle and choose two or more winners - depending on the items up for raffle. Raffle item descriptions are always specified on our Greyhound Affair Raffle page and our raffle rules for all participants (persons purchasing raffle tickets and groups alike) are posted on our site as well.
This is what we ask for from interested groups: 1) Pick a date from our raffle schedule below and email us. Dates are reserved on a first come first serve basis based on need. Give us at least 5 days advance notice with a specific explanation why the group is in need for additional funds. This time is needed to prepare everything, get approval from the manufacturer for our item of choice to be donated and time to write up an appropriate advertisement for the raffle.
2) We will choose an item to donate (usually the item is worth at least $60 or more) to the raffle depending on if the group has their own items to donate or not. Some of these items offer color choices to the winner. If a group has their own items to raffle off, Greyhound Affair will have the option of donating one of our items if we feel the raffle needs a little extra boost. We also have private donators who will graciously donate an item when they can and when needed.
3) If the group is donating the item, we will need pictures of the item and a detailed explanation about it. Note: When the raffle is over, please make sure your donated item is shipped out to the winner in a reasonable 30 day time frame. We will not be responsible for shipping an item that your group donated. If a winner contacts us stating they have not received their item that was donated by your group within the 30 day time frame and we do not get a resolution from both parties, the group's raffle eligibility for future raffles will be suspended. A solution to all of this is to ship the item out as soon as possible upon notification from us with winner's contact/shipping details and get a confirmation of delivery receipt, too.
4) Agree to promote and advertise the raffle on their own list/forum, newsletters, meet and greets and group website at least twice throughout the duration of the raffle. When doing your own advertisement, please include sending us a copy of the advertisement, too. Greyhound Affair will advertise on various appropriate lists/forums as long as the lists/forums approve of such advertisement. Advertising is the key to promoting a successful raffle but it must be done in a way as not to abuse the public or the various list forum rules (where approved and posted to) in general.
5) Cancellations: If a group decides to cancel their scheduled raffle, please contact us via email within 24 hours in advance before the raffle begins. In the event that our advertisement is delayed in being posted or does not post to all the lists in a reasonable amount of time, we reserve the right to cancel the current raffle in fairness to everyone. If this happens, all monies received will be refunded to each party who participated. In the event the raffle does not raise $300 or more, Greyhound Affair reserves the right to cancel the current raffle for the group recipient in fairness to everyone. The intention of our raffles is to raise sufficient funds for the group recipient and to have at least one winner.
In the event Greyhound Affair conducts a raffle for your group, Greyhound Affair will set everything up on our website in our raffle section and determine the dates in which the raffle will run. Your group will be notified in advance of everything before it is advertised to the Greyhound public. Groups approved for a raffle can have two (2) raffles to benefit their group per year. (Example: we run a raffle for your group in July, 2009. Your group is eligible for one more raffle until June 2010) Groups need not be a 501c3 group but still needs to be a group that adopts out at least 2 or more hounds per month on average and must have a website with available hounds needing to be adopted.
In the past, our raffles have made in proceeds (dollar amounts) at least $500 to over $5000 or more for various groups. It all depends on the item(s) donated for the raffle, the need for the raffle and how it is advertised. We conduct raffles where the proceeds will benefit one or more hounds who have substantial illnesses or injuries that require additional monies to help pay for their medical care (when the group can not afford the additional unexpected treatment). We will also conduct raffles to help fund a new kennel building fund or a large haul. Hauls help more hounds get one step closer to their forever home and some of these hounds have been waiting on farms or in kennels for many, many months. Some of these hounds are senior girls and boys, brood moms, stud dogs, retired hounds from racing due to various reasons and hounds that weren't cut out to be a racer. Greyhound Affair will not conduct a raffle just because the group wants it. There has to be a real specific need for asking the public to help.
If your group is interested in having us conduct a raffle for them, please have someone from your group (preferably someone with authority to make decisions for the group) contact us via email. To ensure fairness to all groups, Greyhound Affair conducts all raffles and will report/update the group on the raffle progress frequently.
If you are a supporter of our Greyhound Affair Raffles - thank you! We appreciate you opening your heart and helping. If your group was a past recipient of one of our raffles - we sincerely hope the monies raised/donated were of help and we hope you turn to us again when the need arises.
Thank you for choosing Greyhound Affair to help the hounds!
